And another to eat them

It’s one thing to put bread and wine away in a store room and another to eat them

– Epictetus

Epictetus makes the point that eating bread and wine gets used and absorbed by the body whereas just leaving on the shelves does nothing until eaten and compares it to philosophy (and other studies)

What is the point in study if all you are going to leave what you learnt on the shelves to gather dust

When we study or even get an insite from a film or book we must use it and embody it

Otherwise what’s the point

To say you know something and maybe impress someone

When we embody something we have learnt we improve our lives and the time we spent studying was not wasted

Embody your studies

Get yourself some experience now

All a writer really has is experience
If you intend to write, start to get yourself some experience now

-Michael Baldwin

I get asked how I come up with content every day, I read a lot and I’m human so I have experiences

Experience, no matter what craft your in, helps you become better, even if the experience isn’t related

Experience can always be translated to something else and the lessons extracted

Whatever your craft, get some life experience

A day in the life of

Looking back over the years its pretty amazing to see how much one can change

Sometimes that change happens at random through an event or person

Other times its intentional through study, exercise and personal development

A lot of the change over my life was random until the last 3-4 years when I started doing intentional change so this post is a day in the life of how I go about that (in no particular order)

1a &b) Reading and study (sometimes I combine the 2)

This is where a big part of my Personal Development came from, reading books on finance, philosophy, buisness, productivity, health and fitness and everything in between
Or sometimes I just read novels

2) Exercise- do I need to explain the benefits if exercise, feel better, look better, perform better, I exercise often 3-4 times per week

3) walks and dog walks, get out in nature and move often

4) downtime there was a point in my life where it was just work work work l, everyday I never made any time for downtime and I burnt out, got injured and had no social life

So these are just some of the things I do on the daily for intentional change,

What do you do let me know below v

We need to practice

We don’t become virtuous by reading Epictetus or Seneca, We need to practice – Massimo Pigliucci

Practice, Practice, Practice that’s all we’re doing, all day every day,

The question is what are you practising?

Are you practising what you said you would or are you practising talking or quitting…

Talking about how you’re going to do this and how your going to do that Or quitting this because it didn’t work the first time

Jerry Seinfeld was booed off stage the first time he performed, did he quit… no, He practised

Operating Systems

Operating Systems

They are the lively hood of any tech gadget, any video game and anything in the digital world.

Operating systems are always changing, improving and innovating, That’s why you probably throw out your phone every 12-18 months to upgrade it for the fancier version…

If a tech company introduced a new device with a poor operating system that was difficult to use the company would go bust, Becuase nobody wants a poor slow device…

Yet we function on an operating system too and most often in today’s day and ages our Operating systems are far from supersmooth and reliable,

Yet even me whos writing this at this moment in time I have a dull aching pain running from my hip to part of my lower back because I have neglected to improve or fix the glitch in my operating system.

The question is

Why are we quick to improve our gadgets but not ourselves?

Why are we quick to offer other people advice on how to improve theirs but we don’t follow our own advise?
