Bad chapters can still create great stories

Bad chapters can still create great stories

  • Cynthia Thurlow

Real life isn’t a movie or a book so that magical ending isn’t going to automatically happen,

But if you keep pushing through your struggles, through the hard times

Then you can turn this bad chapter into a great story but not if you settle this chapter for the ending.

Live until you die

Live until you die

Dan Millman (Sacred Journey of The Peaceful Warrior)

Live until you die, meaning dont just get by but actually live with meaning,

In the book quoted above there is one story where Dan and his mentor at the time are walking down the beach and their is loads of washed up star fish,

Dan’s mentor starts to pick up a starfish and walks it to the sea, then another and another,

Dan says this is pointless we’ll never save them all,

His mentor replies yeah but to this one it makes a difference

The late Chadwick Boseman made 9 movies whilst battling cancer, having surgery and chemo,

Performing his art, inspiring the next generation whilst fighting for his life

That’s living till you die.

Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers

So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

Veronica Shoffstall

No one is responsible for your happiness,
Nobody
And your not responsible for anyone else’s

No one is responsible for your growth
No one is responsible for your career
No one is responsible for the actions you take, or dont take

Stop waiting for other people to solve your problems,
Stop blaming other people,

Just get out there and tend to your garden and watch what happens

It’s all on you.

The important thing is, To be ready at any moment to sacrifice what you are, For what you could become

The important thing is, To be ready at any moment to sacrifice what you are, For what you could become

– Charles Dubois

Holding on is what we do, we hold on to a belief or a thought that this is the way we are supposed to be living,

Holding on to stories that we’ve been brought up with, Like the Disney Princess story,

You know growing up, find love, at first sight, get married and live happily ever after…

Even though this rarely happens,

That was just one example, there are many examples of us holding on…

The issue is whilst we’re holding on to some story we’re not allowing any more to unfold

Sometimes you just need to let go, Live that Pocahontas life and go where the wind takes you

Take a risk and sacrifice your old self so a new one can emerge.

‘Yeah but what if that life is no good for me’…

What if it is

Two Weeks Ago, I Was Eating Sugar Myself

‘Two weeks ago I was still eating sugar myself’

-Gandhi

In the way of the peaceful warrior, there was a story of a woman in India who was upset that her son was eating too much sugar. No matter how much she chided him, he continued to satisfy his sweet tooth. Totally frustrated, she decided to take her son to see his great hero Mahatma Gandhi.

Sir, my son eats too much sugar. It is not good for his health. Would you please advise him to stop eating it?”

Gandhi listened to the woman carefully, turned and spoke to her son, ‘Go home and come back in two weeks.”

The woman looked perplexed and wondered why he had not asked the boy to stop eating sugar. She took the boy by the hand and went home.

Two weeks later she returned, with the boy. Gandhi motioned for them to come forward. He looked directly at the boy and said,

‘Boy, you should stop eating sugar. It is not good for your health.”

The boy’s mother turned to Gandhi and asked,
‘Why didn’t you tell him that two weeks ago when I brought him here to see you?”

Gandhi smiled (Apparently I wasn’t there),

‘Mother, two weeks ago I was still eating sugar myself.”

It’s a great example of practising what you preach, Many years ago in my early PT days I was telling a client to stop drinking so much energy drinks, Yet if they had looked on the floor of my car they would have seen layers of empty cans.

Today social media is flooded with loads of ‘expert’ advice from everyone about COVID 19 yet none of those people are even in the health field, the actual experts have dubbed it an Infodemic that there is so much false, unproven, random information out there.

Live what you preach
