Get After It
Its easy to overthink things
Its easy to put off
To create a to do list of a thousnad things to do and get nothing done.
In the end what matters is not what was said but what was done,
so in the words of Jocko
Get After It
‘Crowns do queer things to the heads beneath them’
Tyrion Lannister (GOT)
Just that you do the right thing. The rest doesn’t matter. Cold or warm. Tired or well-rested. Despised or honored
Power can do some strange things as Marcus Aurelius had to remind himself to do the right thing, one can only imagine what power lay at his hands and the temptation it would have come with it.
Modern day we have world leaders despite growing evidence that we do not have a massive killer disease at hand still locking down their citizens
Whether they think they’re doing the right thing or their is something bigger at play I dont know.
(Probably the latter)
What they do is out of our control, we can’t control decisions they make,
But control how we act and react to them.
We can do the right thing
We can protest peacefully, whilst police use their force.
We can read actual science and not the news papers, to educate ourselves and others on what’s actually happening.
Or if you feel it’s the right thing you can stay inside.
Whatever you do, do what you think is the right thing
“Now is no time to think of what you do not have.
Think of what you can do with that there is”
When Musonius Rufus was exiled from Rome, he would use that time to help the others who were also exiled. He found them an underwater spring and stated how man usually turn out better when exiled than they do whilst at home.
He came out with something along the lines of ‘When your at-home how often you see the world, how often do you see all your friends’
(Not an exact quote) but it means that you will never have everything at any one time so make do with what you have.
When we focus on what we don’t have, we lose sight of all we do. We lose sight of all the possibilities that are at hand.
We become blinded to desire.
There is so much at your fingertips.
Evil is Whatever DistractsFranz Kafka
I happened to stumble upon that quote whilst being distracted.
Distractions do nothing but take away time from doing something meaningful and take away time from our life as a direct result of that.
Distractions don’t allow us to get any Deep Work accomplished as Cal Newport would say, and what we’re left with is half-arsed work that doesn’t match our true potential.
Distraction don’t challenge our minds they just merely keep them entertained so we don’t have to do too much thinking.
Distractions are evil because they drain our life ever so slowly we don’t even realise it until its too late
There is no Idea Dump, no Story Central, no Island of the Buried Bestsellers
In his book about ‘on writing’ he says that ideas just come out of nowhere, sometimes it’s two ideas put together
And our job is to recognise them when they do appear, not to go out looking for them
This is true not just In writing but in any idea we have
They say the best nights out are the random ones that just happened out of an idea not pre planned
My best posts (based on likes and my blog stats) are the ones that just sort of happened, where as my well thought out ones most of the time are greeted with nothing.
Ideas generally come when we least expect them, like in the shower or whilst driving (the amount of ideas I’ve had and forgotten whilst driving because I couldn’t write them down is frustrating)
Stop trying to be creative and just let the process happen
But when it does be ready to recognise and catch it
Like the guy who created the flaming hot cheetos he just happened to dip his cheetos into some chilli powder (I think) whilst on his day job
Random idea dudes quite rich now
