Comfort is the enemy
When Cole was talking about how he didn’t become a professional basketball player he said that it was because he wasn’t putting in the work,
He said he was playing ball every day, but he wasn’t working with coaches and practicing drills, he was pretending to do something…
Then when his friends pointed out that he was doing the same thing with his rap career
He was like oh shit and it woke him up that he was just working in his comfort zone
So he would write a song or a verse and make a beat before he went to the studio.
He would do 7 minute drills where for 7 minutes he would write.
Comfort is the enemy, comfort cost him his basketball career and almost cost him his rap one too
Do the work
It’s ok to take a break
We all have this idea of how what is acceptable in society or in our craft
Work hard all the time, even when you’re sick, no breaks
You must write every day if you want to be a writer,
You need to eat nothing if you want to lose weight (that was sarcasm btw, do not do that)
However none of these are the case
You can still be very successful, working 20 hours a week and having regular breaks (read the 4 hour work week)
You can have a day off writing or whatever it is you do if you need a creativity break
And you can lose weight by eating more and not exercising everyday
Whatever it is in life, your allowed to take a break, otherwise life will just break you
Level Down, So you can level up
I know I wrote this post a few weeks back (Where in your world do you need to level up)
And this post is more the opposite, Where do you need to level down.
Because we all want to accomplish so much, So we take on too much and accomplish nothing.
We try to help others, Try and do five things at once and we become overwhelmed and drained, then do nothing.
Somewhere in your world, you need to Cut back on, So you can level up elsewhere, where it will make a difference to your life, SO you can make a difference in other lives as well.
You can’t do everything and in trying you’ll do nothing.
Everything you don’t want
Is exactly what you need
What you don’t want to do, see or hear
Is what it takes to succeed in any form of success
Long term commitment, slow results and hard work
In relationships for example (and I know this isn’t everyone’s) but I see a lot on social media many people within a year of a relationship getting engaged.
Now to me that isn’t the long game, that’s still the honey moon period of the relationship where they haven’t been through any real tests, they are rushing results… (But then again I could just be miserable judging from the lonely side line)
Body everyone wants to lose 10 years of bad habits in 2 weeks
And become a millionaire over night
Nobody wants the long term struggle, nobody wants to be told that it will take time, they want results yesterday or they don’t want to do anything
So they spend time hopping from fad to fad, from engagement to engagement hoping to find the one thing to jump them success over night.
Fantasy can become reality.
And reality becomes boring.
Are you bored right now, Bored with your phone, your car, your house, your job, your business, your partner…
Those things that one day was just a fantasy. Those things that you worked your ass off. We go through these phases in life where we just get boarded with reality. But it wasn’t always a reality.
Look back to where you were before you had this stuff and compare it to where you are now.
Look how far you’ve come.
Take that in for a moment, because it’s easy to push for the next target and the next.
But if you don’t appreciate then your on a never-ending treadmill.
