Comfort is the enemy

Comfort is the enemy
-J Cole

When Cole was talking about how he didn’t become a professional basketball player he said that it was because he wasn’t putting in the work,

He said he was playing ball every day, but he wasn’t working with coaches and practicing drills, he was pretending to do something…

Then when his friends pointed out that he was doing the same thing with his rap career

He was like oh shit and it woke him up that he was just working in his comfort zone

So he would write a song or a verse and make a beat before he went to the studio.
He would do 7 minute drills where for 7 minutes he would write.

Comfort is the enemy, comfort cost him his basketball career and almost cost him his rap one too

Do the work
Every day

Creativity Break

Creativity break

Ok creativity does not take a break, it jumps at you from nowhere, sometimes in the most random times

Like in the shower or on a long road trip, you know when there is absolutely nothing you can do about it

So why the creativity break

You know, your sat at your desk, your boss or your client is down your neck or your firing blanks in the ideas meetings

You stare at a blank screen or paper, forcing your brain to come up with something

But it just relays the fact you got nothing.

So what do you do?
Get away from your desk and do anything other than think about the problem

Take a walk, exercise, take a weekend away and just dont think about the problem

But whatever you do, take a notepad and be ready to capture the ideas as they come

Because they will If you take a break from trying to find them

Be A Student Of Your Game

Be A Student Of Your Game

Ryan Holiday posted an Instagram post sometime back and someone asked him how he reads so much

His response was firstly I’m a writer so I get paid to read because if I don’t I can’t write

In Steven Pressfields War of art our turning pro (I can’t remember which one) he says a similar thing I write all day then read all night

Coming from the fitness industry a lot of the personal trainers get their basic qualifications and thats it, but the best keep on studying

To master your craft you have to study your craft the world is evolving constantly what worked once might not work now

Don’t be left dead in the water

There is only Perfectionist Block

Perfectionist Block

– Jessica Brody

Perfection blocks us from pretty much anything we do in life,

I remember when I thought about starting this blog and I said to myself I’ll wait until I am a successful businessman till I start writing (Lol) because then it will be perfect

That would have been many years of writing not done

I always hear people say they’ll wait until they lose weight before they go to the gym < like what?

There is no such thing as writers block or gym block or anything block the only thing that is blocking us is that we want everything to be perfect

And nothing is
So nothing is done

Allow yourself to be bad

Blank paper

Blank paper

A blank page is the worst thing for an artist

Just staring at it knowing the work has not been done

Knowing resistance has won

On the contrary though a blank piece of paper is also an empty space for opportunity to be unravelled

Unlimited opportunity for creativity

But first the artist must overcome resistance and put pen to pad
