Where Do Fads Come From?

Where Do Fads Come From?

Get rich quick schemes, fad diets, Fad beauty regimes…
Where do they all originate…

I’ve just finished reading ‘Trust Me I’m Lying’ by Ryan Holiday

He talks about how news, rumours, fake news etc Trades up the chain…

All blogs are after are clicks, clicks give them revenue from the ads they sell, More clicks the more ads get seen…

So they don’t care about what gets posted and they certainly don’t research what they post, They just publish stories…

So, for example, a wine company or a pr rep for that company could leak a fake study or a poorly researched study to a couple of low standard blogs, The blogs would share that storey ‘Lose weight with wine’ witch as you can see would get loads of clicks…

The bigger blogs would get wind and share their version of the story then the news…

And before you know it you have a weight loss with wine trend…

(This actually happened a couple of years back)

But that’s how easy it is to create a trend or a fake story…

The moral is

Be careful where you get your advice from, whether that’s weight loss or investment even stories about politics and bigger news is mostly manipulated (I don’t have the book to hand but Ryan writes about how one vice president leaked a fake stories to the press, Then held a press conference to declare that they are sending troops to invade that country because of the news (which he made up))

The media is a scary place.

You cannot create what you don’t focus on

You cannot create what you don’t focus on

You meet those people, and they’re just full of energy

They are successful in their field and they seem to be making money or whatever every time they blink…

Those guys(and gals) are super focused…

And you’re like damn I wanna be like them…

Then you look at your work schedule and you’re like well, I’m free on Saturday I’ll start then, oh no wait Sallys birthday or Mark wants to go on the piss that night, I guess Maybe Monday evening I could start…

Before you know it you’ve stopped focusing on whatever and your back to your normal schedule…

And nothing changes…

Nothing changes because nothing was created

Nothing was created because

You

Were

Not

Focused

On

Changing (Or creating)

You want to create change… Focus on change you’ll feel happier for it too (see yesterdays [post)

What you focus on you feel

What you focus on you feel

You have a bad start to the day, say you were late to work,

On your way to work you’re worried about being late, Then you get there and your so drained and feel bad about being late, then something else happens which normally probably wouldn’t have bothered you, but because you were already in that negative state it compounds the feeling…

The whole day goes by and it just ‘Seems to be one of those days’

But it wasn’t, you just focused on the bad, so you felt bad… All-day.

That’s why you see it all the time on Facebook…

‘I can’t seem to catch a break’ and you’re just thinking ‘Can’t catch a break… Your alive aren’t you, what more do you want’

But more often than not people are focusing on the shitty… so they feel shitty

Maybe it’s you…

So the solution, although simple (but the execution is hard) is to shift your focus…

A couple of years back when I lost my Nan, a couple of days after her funeral I was sacked…

Alouguth a very shitty time of my life, Looking bad I probably could have recovered from it quicker, but I chose to focus on the fact that I had no money, no job, I kept telling myself that I couldn’t afford to leave the house… So instead I played video games, moped around the house and cried a lot…

It wasn’t until like a year later that I started to shift my focus around and I know I’ve told that storey several times…

Ways to help shift your focus…

Read books (Personal development/ Business books)
Motivational videos
Seminars and events
Hire a coach or mentor
Most importantly do something different that gets you out of your current habit cycle (The above will help, but until you do there won’t be any permanent change)

There’s always a bigger fish.

There’s always a bigger fish.
— Qui-Gon Jinn (Star Wars)

There’s always a bigger house, There’s always a faster car, There’s always someone whos making more money than you (Unless your Jeff Bezos)

There’s always a new get rich quick scheme, There’s always another Rapid weight loss program,

There’s always something more shiny and appealing than what you’re doing, That seems to be working better for someone else than you…

Here’s what you need to remember,

The bigger fish isn’t your concern.

You started something for a reason, Just because you didn’t get returns yesterday doesn’t mean you should look for something new today…

That newer shiny thing won’t work for you either, Because you’re not giving anything enough time for results to flourish.

There is no time off

There is no time off…

If you’re familiar with Viking History you’ll know that they raided in the summer but in the winter they packed up and went home…

Life isn’t like that though, we can’t work for the summer and return home in the winter,

We have to fight untill the battle is over, There are no winters off, no weeks or even days,

Anything can happen in the blink of an eye…

Businesses are constantly marketing, Not just when they want to increase revenue but all the time because they know that when the time comes that they need to increase revenue, It’s too late to market…

You don’t just start working out when the doctor has told you some bad news, it’s too late then…

We have to prepare for what life throws at us, Becuase when it does … We will be ready
