Your eyes are ropey, stinging as they try to close again.
Your body is stagnant, Your muscles from the neck down haven’t awoken yet…
As you try and force yourself to roll out of your bed and prepare for the day ahead
You ask yourself is this really worth it Or Should I just roll back over and go back to sleep…
In this groggy exhausted state, we often forget that it is a privilege to wake up today.
“When you arise in the morning think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love …” Marcus Aurelius
We often forget that today is a brand new day to make a brand new start, A new day that we get to spend with people we love and enjoy each others company.
We often forget as Marcus states that its a privilege to ‘Think’…
And many us forget to think or at least we forget to think our own thoughts…
We wake up, Watch the news, Check social media, go to work and gossip, check social media again then go home and try to switch off by watching mindless tv whilst browsing social media to distract us from our thoughts.
When we forget to think for ourselves and just roll with the days as we come we’re borderline robotic – Just living to serve our purpose at work and not utilising our mind and our brief time on this Earth (I’ll save making time for another post)
We treat our days like a burden ‘Aggh can I be bothered with today’ Like you have infinite to play with, You forget that one day you are going to die and with that, you forget to live.
My real life Memento Mori Reminder was a couple of months back when I got hit by a truck and dragged along the motorway – The outcome could have been a lot more fatal – It happened in a split second, In a split second my life could have been over…
So when you wake – Remeber what a blessing it is, No matter how hard your day, week or year it has been.
Today you’re alive, Today you have a chance to make a change to do or work towards something you want. Or to make somebody else’s day, Tell someone you love them or do something spontaneous.
Take a diversion home and stop off at the park, go for a walk, go see the beauty in this world that you take for granted.
Go Love and Go Laugh…
Just remember that tomorrow might not come and today you’re blessed.
So when you wake in groggy mind and think is this worth it – just remember what a privilege it is to even be able to think that.
Memento mori (Latin: “remember death”)
Memento Vivere — (Latin “remember that you must live.)
