We’ve all heard the story of the philosophy professor who stood up before his class with a large empty mayonnaise jar. (If you haven’t google it)

He fills it with Rocks, Pebbles and Sand and some variations of the story have water too…

How To Prioritise TThe.png

The rocks are equivalent to the most important projects and things you have going on, The pebbles represent the things in your life that matter, but that you could live without, The sand represents the remaining filler things in your life, and material possessions and from the book Start Now Get Perfect Later Rob Moore added water – The things other people expect from you.

Now there’s nothing wrong with adding a bit of sand and water into your life (Especially if you’re on a beach in Greece) as long as you’ve prioritised your Rocks first…

Many people fill their Jar (Life) with sand and water – Leaving no room for the Rocks (Important things in life)

They will spend their time on social media, watching tv the adding some water running around after other people making sure there rocks and pebbles are alright yet when you try to add your rocks into your jar theirs no room.

You’ve filled it with sand and water…

Now there’s nothing wrong with adding a bit of sand and water into your life (Especially if you’re on a beach in Greece) as long as you’ve prioritised your Rocks first…

7 ways to Prioritise Your Rocks

1 – Ask Yourself Why

Understanding exactly why you want to eat healthier and exercise more…
Understanding exactly why you want to spend all of your free time working on the business idea you have instead of relaxing…
Understanding …

Keep asking yourself why you want to do ‘X’ until you have a deep understanding as to why you want ‘X’.

Understanding exactly why will give you the motivation to prioritise it over everything else.

2. Identify your priorities (Rocks pebbles etc)

Rocks (Anything that gives your life meaning so if the pebbles and sand were removed your life would still have meaning) – Health, Family, ect..

Pebbles – Hobbies, Your business, excelling at work, etc…

Sand – Social media, TV, Material possestions ect…

Water – Close the lid before any of that gets in…
3. To achieve what you want i.e. Health Replace Low-value Activities with High-value Ones…

I.e. 15 minutes of Tv could be replaced with 15 minutes of meal prep or 15 minutes of writing your book etc

4. Put it in your diary

Whenever we have to do something for someone else we schedule it in and drop everything so we can get to that task on time i.e. work or giving someone a lift… But when it comes to doing the important stuff for us we wait till we feel like it (Never happens)

Put the important stuff in your diary and stick to it like your doing someone else a favour.

Finally, review your week at the end of the week.
